Direct hit scored in a trial run by Gabor Varga during trials on Friday 8th September.

Unfortunately on the very first lap of the race on Sunday, 10th September a collision between the aircraft of Gabor Varga and Eddie Goggins resulted in the death of the former. Eddie Goggins parachuted safely into the sea and was immediately picked up by rescue crew. We are publishing some photos of this sad incident because it is what actually happened.

Gabor's Yak 55 has lost its empennage after it collided with the right wing of Eddie's Extra 200. The tail section has just hit the surface of the sea.

Gabor's aircraft nose-dives out of control and is just about to hit the surface while Eddie manages to zoom climb to achieve enough height to enable him to bale out safely.

The Yak has hit the water and will sink within seconds.

The Extra 200 has also hit the water while Eddie's parachute is deploying metres above the sea. The Yak is sinking fast now.
