| Arrival:
No
prior permission is required for non-commercial General Aviation
aircraft to fly to Malta, however since this would be an international
flight, a flight plan must be filed. It is recommended that you request handling from Air Malta.
AOPA-Malta has negotiated reasonable fees for transport of crew and
passengers from the park to the terminal. Arriving GA aircraft will normally be parked on Park 1. If this
park is full then expect to go to Park 3. Tie-downs are only available on Park 1.
On arrival at the passenger terminal go to the
immigration desk and hand in your passport and the completed General
Declaration form. You will normally be out of the terminal
and on your way in a few minutes. Rent-a-car offices and banks for
changing money can be found in the arrivals hall. If you arrive in a non-EU registered aircraft, you might be requested to present insurance documents proving that you are covered in accordance with EC Regulation 785/2004 (if you don't know what this is, Google it). So keep a photocopy of your insurance certificate to keep the bureaucrats happy. |

| Departure: The Flight Planning Office is located in the Departures hall. It is situated in the back left hand corner as you enter the hall, past the Post Office and through the grey swinging doors. There are also facilities for met briefing in this office and staff will be available to help you if needed. Once you have filed a flight plan proceed to the Information Desk which is at the back right hand corner of the Departure Hall next to the V.A.T. refund counter. Inform the receptionist at the desk that you have a private flight and she will contact the M.I.A. Duty Officer who will meet you. You will settle the airport charges, landing, parking and transport fees (see M.I.A. website for these). If you need fuel phone Enemalta, click here for details. Air Malta will normally be contacted to send a vehicle to transport you to your aircraft. | ||
| Documentation: For every international flight you must complete a General Declaration Form. If the flight is within the E.U., two copies are required, one for Immigration and one for the airport Aviation Services Department. If the flight is leaving the E.U. a third copy for Customs is required. | ||
