In the Steps of Roland Garros, 90 years on.
On Tuesday, 23rd September 1913, Roland Garros a French aviator set off to cross the Mediterranean sea on a Morane Saulnier model H aircraft powered with a 60 hp Gnome engine. He succeeded and arrived in Tunis after an eventful flight. To celebrate this important event in aviation history two members (Mario Romano and Jean-Louis Bernet) of the Aero Club de Coulommiers & Brie, near Paris embarked on a flight which would take them from Paris to Cannes, Tunis, Malta, Catania, Rome, Orange and back to Paris. The aircraft used was a Piper Arrow PA28 RT201T, registration F-GERM. They landed in Malta on Tuesday, 23rd September 2003, 90 years to the date from Roland Garros' historic flight. AOPA-Malta was there to welcome them on arrival and on Wednesday they were received at the AOPA premises at the airport.
